First Time Seeing the House in Santo Stefano di Camastra

This one started the way a lot of our favorite stories do, with someone watching a video from their couch, thousands of miles away, and thinking “what if that could actually be mine.”

The video was our tour of Casa Zia Maria, a 111 square meter (about 1,195 square feet) ground-floor apartment in Santo Stefano di Camastra, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, sea views, a private garden, and a price tag of just €70,000. It needed a light renovation, but the bones and the location, steps from the train station, were exactly what our viewer had been hoping to find.

They reached out, we talked through the details, and before long we were handling the process on their behalf while they were still back home. That’s always the strange, wonderful part of this job for us, guiding someone toward a home they haven’t even stood inside yet.

So when the time finally came for them to fly out to Sicily, walk through the door of Casa Zia Maria, and see it in person for the first time, with the closing just about 10 days away, we made sure to be right there with them, along with the geometra, to walk the property together.

Standing in that garden, with the sea in the distance, was a completely different feeling than watching it on a screen.

I came out here to see my house for the first time. The house was just as expected from the video and so nice to see in person. I can’t imagine going through this whole process without someone like Carlo on my side. He’s been my navigator in chief and I couldn’t have done it without him. I can’t wait to move in.

Hearing that meant a lot to us. This is exactly why we do this work, not just to find beautiful, affordable homes on the Sicilian coast, but to walk people through every step until they’re standing on their own doorstep, keys in hand, ten days from closing.

Casa Zia Maria is almost home for someone new now. And soon, that garden, that sea view, and that quiet walk to the train station will just be part of everyday life.
