Darren and His Partner Bought Their Sicilian Home Before Ever Setting Foot Inside

Darren and his partner found us the way a lot of our clients do, sitting on their couch in the US, watching video tours of houses in Sicily they had never smelled, walked through, or touched.

They landed on Tusa, a hilltop town in the historic center where we had been showing a property called Casa Celeste. It is not a total rebuild, which is rare for this price point, and that mattered to them.

They made the decision to move forward based almost entirely on our videos. That is a leap of faith we never take lightly, and we knew the real test would come the day they finally stood inside the walls themselves.

That day came right before closing. We sat down with them on camera, just after they had walked through the house in person for the first time, and asked how it compared to everything they had seen on screen.

Excited to have a base, it’s a start. It was a little different, but fairly close to the videos you shot, which were really informative and very helpful. The people here in Sicily are just so friendly, so warm, so accepting, it’s like the US maybe 30 or 40 years ago. We want to retire here. Carlo has a really good team and we’ve met quite a few of them, they’re so helpful.

Hearing them say the videos held up meant everything to us. That is the whole reason we film every corner, every crack, every staircase, so that when someone finally lands in Sicily, there are no surprises waiting for them.

What struck us most was how quickly they felt at home in Tusa itself, not just in the house. Within days they were talking about the warmth of the town, the way neighbors wave and stop to talk, the sense of a slower, kinder pace of life.

That is the part of this work we love the most. It is never just about the walls and the price. It is about watching two people from the US start to imagine a whole retirement unfolding inside a stone house in the historic center of a Sicilian hill town.

Darren and his partner still have work ahead of them to make Casa Celeste fully their own. But they have their base now, their start, and a team on the ground in Sicily they already trust.

We could not be happier to have been part of getting them there.
