There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over someone the first time they turn a key in the door of a house they now own in Italy. Thais had that moment this month.
She stood in front of her new home in Motta d’Affermo, a medieval hilltop town on Sicily’s northern coast, with the sea spread out behind it. She was there to start cleaning out the rooms, which is about as ordinary and as extraordinary a first day as you can have.
What makes her story worth telling is where she started from. There was a stretch when nothing was going her way, and a home in Italy did not feel like a real possibility, let alone something that could actually get done.
She held onto one idea through all of it. Prepare for the future instead of dwelling in the current circumstance. That is the mindset that eventually put her in front of that door.
Her home is one of the sea view homes we have filmed in Motta d’Affermo, where the old stone streets sit high above the water and the views run out toward the Aeolian Islands on a clear day.
This purchase had a wrinkle that trips up a lot of international buyers. The house had multiple sellers, which is common in Italy when a property has passed down through a family, and every one of them has to agree before anything moves.
That is where the work happened. We did the back and forth with each of the sellers, secured the information as it came in, and did most of the translating along the way, so Thais never had to chase anyone across a language barrier herself.
She describes the whole process as seamless. From our side, it was staying in contact with the right people until the keys were in her hand.
Shout out to the Move To Italy Now team. Carlo and Jeia helped me secure this home with that gorgeous sea in the back view.
I’ve been living by the motto of, I need to prepare for my future and not dwell in my current circumstance. At one point in time, life was lifing, and I didn’t think that this was going to be a reality, let alone possible.
But the two of them actually showed me not only was it possible, it’s done. Picked up the keys. I’m here.
I’m doing a little bit of a clean out in my wonderful home in Motta d’Affermo.
I can only express to someone else who is looking to make the change that they should definitely work with Move To Italy Now. The process was seamless.
They were in contact with the right people to serve the needs that you have, doing the work, and most of the time being the translator, doing the back and forth and securing the information with the sellers, as there were multiple on this house.
I am starting my Sicilian dream here in Motta d’Affermo, and all I can say is ciao ciao for now.
We caught up with Thais in Episode 90, mid clean out, grinning at her own front door. She signed off with ciao ciao for now, which is exactly the right note for someone who is only just getting started.
If you have been telling yourself a home in Italy is not possible right now, her story is worth sitting with. Tell us your dream, and we’ll help make it real.
